India Revises Food Fortification Regulation

On May 19, 2017, the FFSAI revised a draft regulation relating to fortified food products including salt, vanaspati, wheat flour (Atta), vegetable oil, refined wheat flour (Maida), and fortified rice. It entered into force on April 17, 2017.
Republic of South Africa Amends Pesticide MRLs for Foodstuffs

On April 7, 2017 the Republic of South Africa issued a draft amendment to its regulations governing maximum limits for pesticides that may be present in foodstuffs. Comments to this amendment can be made until July 7, 2017.
EU Regulates PFOA and Related Substances under REACH

The EU has recently published measures to regulate PFOA, its salts and related substances in a wide range of products under Annex XVII of REACH. The new law will be implemented in phases, starting July 4, 2020.
New York City Requires Calorie Labeling as US FDA Delays Menu Labeling

New York City notified chain restaurants and retailers that starting May 22, 2017 they are required to adhere to the city’s menu labeling rule if they have 15 or more locations nationwide. This has been introduced because the US FDA announced a delay in the federal menu labeling law until May 7, 2018.
FSANZ Adds Lupin to the Mandatory Allergen Labeling List

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has added lupin to the required list of allergens that are to be provided on food labels. Effective May 25, 2017 businesses have 12 months to declare lupin as an allergen on prepackaged food labeling in Australia and New Zealand.
US Proposes to Extend Compliance Dates for Composite Wood Products

The US EPA has issued two rules to extend the compliance dates relating to formaldehyde emission standards in composite wood products. Unless adverse comments are received, the direct final rule will become effective on July 10, 2017.
