SGS Attends 3rd CARAGA Mining Symposium and Safety Competition
SGS participated in the 3rd CARAGA Mining Symposium & Safety Competition with the theme “Responsible Mining in CARAGA: Taxation, Its Contribution to the Local & National Growth” last October 1-2, 2015. The Safety Competition was held during the first day of the event at Parkway Hotel, Surigao City followed by the symposium on the second day at Gaisano Capital Ground/Surigao City National High School.
Mr. Jerome Cipriano, EEHS Certification Manager of SGS in the Philippines, was one of the keynote speakers during the second day of the event. Mr. Cipriano conducted a talk on ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
The event aimed to promote public awareness on the social, cultural, environmental and economic contributions of the mining industry in the country particularly in the CARAGA region. One of the highlights of the affair was the Safety Competition that promoted public awareness on the importance of prioritizing safety at all times as well as the country’s capability in disaster management. The symposium further emphasized the mining industry’s contribution to the development of communities through legal taxes.
Participants from different sectors including LGUs, academe, NGOs, the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, and mining companies attended the said event. It was organized by the Chamber of Mines of CARAGA Region Incorporated, Philippine Society of Mining Engineers – CARAGA Chapter, CARAGA Mine Safety and Health Council, and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-RXIII.
