SGS Academy Conducts Environmental Management Training for the Chamber of Mines of CARAGA Region
SGS Academy, the learning services arm of SGS Philippines, Inc., provided a training on Environmental Management System (EMS) and Environmental Risk Management for the line management members of the Chamber of Mines CARAGA Region and Region VIII through the president, Mr. Dulmar M. Raagas on November 11-13, 2015 at Mt. Bagarabon Hotel and Resort, Mabua, Surigao City.
Facilitated by Mr. Jerome Cipriano, EEHS Certification Manager of SGS in the Philippines, the training consisted of a 16-hour course on ISO 14001:2015 EMS Interpretation Course and an 8-hour course on Environmental Risk Management. Throughout the event, participants developed an in-depth understanding on the requirements of ISO 14001:2015 EMS. They further learned about environmental aspect identification and impact evaluation; such factors are helpful for anyone involved in EMS implementation.
The three-day course was attended by some members of different mining companies in Region XIII and Region VIII. It was part of the participants’ preparation to comply with DENR Administrative Order 2015-07 that mandates mining companies to obtain an ISO 14001 certification by year 2016.
