MEC, WTCMI AND THE FIRST ISO 9001:2015 CERTIFIED EXHIBITION FACILITY IN THE PHILIPPINES
On January 23, 2016, the Manila Exposition Complex, Inc. (MEC) and World Trade Center Management, Inc. (WTCMI) obtained recertification under the latest version of ISO’s renowned quality management standard, ISO 9001:2015, for Management and Operation of Exhibition Facilities. MEC owns the World Trade Center Metro Manila (WTCMM), one of the few world-class exhibition venues in the Philippines, which is then managed by WTCMI. This makes WTCMM the first ISO 9001:2015 certified exhibition facility in the country and the first to be recognized by Union des Foires Internationales (UFI), a global association of tradeshow organizers based in France.
SGS Philippines, Inc. audited MEC’s and WTC’s management system to determine its conformity with applicable statutory, regulatory and contractual requirements. The audit also aimed to assess the effectiveness of the management system to ensure that the Client can reasonably expect to achieve specified objectives and to identify areas for potential improvement.
With the implementation of the standard, WTCMI was able to develop a more dynamic, risk-based approach to the Quality Management System (QMS). “ISO 9001:2015 and SGS provided MEC and WTCMI with a system that helped us in delivering the best quality and service to our customers,” stated BJ Alora, VP of Industrial Engineering & Corporate Planning of World Trade Center. “We are committed to be a world-class company, taking pride in our service and management across all our markets.”
For other organizations interested in being certified, Alora points out that commitment is key in achieving the requirements as well as an understanding and appreciation of the risk-based approach.
MEC and WTC have been ISO 9001 certified since 2013. Their ISO 9001:2015 certification is valid until January 22, 2019, with a recertification audit due before December 21, 2018.
TRANSITION TO ISO 9001:2015
Organizations that are currently ISO 9001:2008 certified have three years, from formal publication of ISO 9001:2015, to transfer to the new version of the standard. Based on the current publication schedule, this transition period will end in September 2018.
