Representatives from the Municipality of Bocaue, attended a customized training on 5S Program.
Headed by Mayor Joni Villanueva-Tugna, the municipality’s representatives participated on a comprehensive training on the 5S Program at SGS Academy Makati this week. The training comprises of a 5S overview, best practices, step-by-step system guide, applications and workshops to help an organization towards the attainment of a safe and efficient workplace environment.
With origins at the Toyota Motor Company, the 5S method pertains to standard maintenance practices in the workplace through the five principles of Sort (Seiri), Set in order (Seiton), Shine (Seiso), Standardize (Seiketsu), and Sustain (Shitsuke).
Being an ISO 9001:2015 certified organization, it is essential for the municipality to think of ways to execute of activities for continual improvement. Through the implementation of a 5S Program, the municipality’s day-to-day operations are expected to gradually improve in terms of workforce commitment, productivity, safety culture and waste reduction. All activities are geared towards the provision of optimal services to the municipality’s constituents.

The 5S Program aims to instill a “way of life” mentality, starting with the municipality’s officials down to its constituents, from the workplace to their homes. After three months, SGS Philippines will visit the municipality to conduct an assessment on the impact of the 5S Program through review of documentation (“before and after”), visual inspection and interviews. This is to assess if individual commitments given by the participants (representatives) are implemented and sustained.
