The primary theme of the event was focused on "Food Safety is a Must: A Presentation to the Food Sector of Iloilo City".

More than 50 Rotary Club members and representatives of the Hotel and Restaurant Club of Iloilo attended the event. SGS Philippines shared a presentation on the relevance and importance of Food Safety compliance to the community and to individuals in the food supply chain. A more in-depth explanation of Food Safety Management Systems and its integration with Quality Management Systems was discussed by Mr. Roger Villanueva, the Business Director of the SGS Certification and Business Enhancement division. SGS was also represented by its two Certification Sales Representatives – Ms. Claire Sumicad and Ms. Sahar Varona.

An open forum was also facilitated by Ms. Jacqueline Go (Engineer and Kitchen Design Consultant; Owner of Auro Chocolates) and SGS Philippines. The questions circulated on the issues of Food Safety given the increase in online deliveries due to COVID-19, safety of internationally and locally sourced raw materials, proper use of food packaging and utensils, and management of customer feedback.

Some key takeaways from the open forum emphasized on the benefits of the implementation of GMP and HACCP Principles to the food service industry, for both consumers and businesses. Establishing food safety  management systems in place will give businesses a competitive advantage in the strictly regulated and continuously evolving food industry.
