As part of the awareness campaign of the SGS Hygiene Monitored Program, a forum was held at The Grid, Power Plant Mall, Rockwell Makati City last December 4, 2019 with the theme “The Future of Food Safety in the Philippines”.

The event was attended by 130 representatives of several businesses from food services, retail and hospitality industries. The forum commenced with words from the SGS Agriculture, Food and Life Business Director, Mr. Jeremiah B. Macias.

One of the guest speakers was Engr. Ro Santiago, the Supervising Health Program Officer of DOH - Disease Prevention and Control Bureau who shared the Code Sanitation of the Philippines which mainly focuses on food safety, which has now become a public health concern.

Digging profoundly on food safety, a presentation on what you need to know about African Swine Fever was presented by Dr. Zoilo Lapus, the president of Philippine College of Swine Practitioners, an International Consultant. On the other hand, on ensuring the consumers’ food safety, Mr. Jed Dalangin, a Product and Experience Development Manager of Certified Digital Marketer, discussed about the importance of consumer insights on a digital diner’s perspective.

Representing SGS, our very own Global Technical Manager for Food, Mr. Zeb Blanton also shared his knowledge and expertise. Mr. Blanton significantly discussed about the global food safety program specifically the role of hygiene monitoring in food service while Ms. Fiona Peng, the Food Services Manager of Commercial division in SGS Taiwan, tackled about innovation in food safety as currently being practiced in Taiwan.

PizzaExpress Philippines of Tasteless Food Group is the first  SGS Hygiene Monitored Program certified establishment. During the forum, Chef Emman Galvez, PizzaExpress’ Restaurant Operations Director in the Philippines - shared his testimonial about the program.

The forum ended with a closing remark from the SGS Philippines Managing Director, Mr. Ariel Miranda, who congratulated the HMP team for the successful event and expressed his gratitude for the presence and contributions of the speakers and attendees.
