Exclusive Food Safety Webinar by SGS Philippines Food and DTI Region 2
SGS Philippines Inc. - Agriculture, Food and Life division, in partnership with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2, conducted an exclusive webinar for the MSMEs of Region 2 using the new media and videoconferencing platforms last May 28, 2020.
The webinar entitled “Basic Food Safety and FDA LTO Certification” mainly discussed about food safety and biosecurity protocols in the time of COVID-19 and compliance with the Philippine and FDA LTO documentary requirements and certification procedures.
As we transition from Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) to General Community Quarantine (GCQ), SGS Philippines and DTI Region 2 aims to help the MSMEs reopen their food businesses (food manufacturing, food service, and retail) with peace of mind and confidence. According to DTI Region 2, there are around 231 MSMEs who participated in the webinar. SGS shared the basic principles of Food Safety to guide and prepare them for the License to Operate (LTO) application. Biosecurity protocols relevant to COVID-19 was also discussed to help the food business owners plan and establish their biosecurity protocols to reduce the risk of spreading the virus in their facilities.
SGS has also shared some best practices from the food industry in different parts of the world which are focused on the implementation of COVID-19 risk management principles. Guidelines are based on the World Health Organization (WHO) COVID-19 and Food Safety guide for Food Businesses. Sample signages, monitoring forms, and SSOPs from which they can benchmark against were shared as they prepare for the reopening.
A Facebook contest was also held to engage the participants during the webinar. The post should include a selfie or photo of them while listening and watching during the webinar with a caption on what they have learned from the topics discussed. The winner of the contest would be the post with the most reactions and shares and will win a Food Safety Level 1 E-Learning access.
MSMEs have submitted great posts showing how motivated they were to learn and level-up even with the challenges during these trying times. SGS Philippines is very grateful to DTI Region 2 for this opportunity to once again help our MSMEs in the region. DTI Region 2 is also SGS' pilot partner for the Kaagapay Traceability project. Thank you for the heartwarming feedback and to all who participated during the webinar. We hope to meet you again in our future activities.
