SGS Philippines, Inc. – Agriculture, Food and Life conducted its third food safety webinar entitled “Food Safety Essentials” in partnership with DTI Bataan.

The webinar held last June 10, 2020 was attended by the MSMEs under DTI Bataan as well as representatives from the partner organizations which made this webinar possible. JCI Bataan president Khairy Alonto who opened the event expressed his gratitude and appreciation to DTI Provincial Director Nelin Ocson Cabahug for creating opportunities for MSMEs in the opening remarks.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Covid-19 impact is obvious across all businesses with no exemption to the food industry. Protocols are now employed to various establishment as part of the efforts to control the pandemic. Ms. Danica De Guzman, Operations Executive for SGS Philippines - Food Sector discussed how employing biosecurity protocols can reduce the Covid-19 spread in the food processing facilities.  According to her, it is important to educate the MSMEs in establishing their own biosecurity protocols in the food processing and in the whole operation to ensure safety, not only of the products but as well as their employees.

Now more than ever, with the increase of home-made items readily available online, knowledge in food safety is already becoming a must which is why SGS Philippines AFL Technical Lead Auditor Jan Camille Cruz emphasized the importance of adhering to the guidelines of Good Manufacturing Practices in order to produce quality and safe products to the consumers.

Started as an initiative to help the MSMEs grow, the SGS Kaagapay Program has come this far through its projects in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Kaagapay Program offers assistance to the MSMEs on quality inspection, technical consultancy, training, and testing of agricultural and food products.

This webinar was made possible through collaboration with different government and private organizations like DTI Bataan, City Government of Balanga, JCI Bataan, CEIDO / Invest in the City of Balanga, and Nspire. SGS Philippines aims to share the proper food safety measures during the pandemic with MSMEs through the free webinar series.
