Manila, Philippines – Late last year, the Philippines was hit by two successive typhoons which flooded several communities and damaged a lot of properties.

The government extended aid to the areas that were badly affected, however the Filipino citizens were also quick to respond to the massive need for efficient and immediate assistance of their countrymen.

SGS Phillippines, Inc. together with SICPA Holdings, organized an outreach program in partnership with Kaya Natin! Movement under the Bangon Luzon Donation Drive. A total fund of P200,000 was sponsored by the SGS Philippines Fuel Marking Team under the Oil, Gas and Chemical Division and SICPA Holdings, having 300 families as beneficiaries. The area of focus was Montalban, Rizal and the affected families were provided with basic necessities such as distilled drinking water, rice, canned goods, hygiene kits, and other food items.

Having the community as part of the SGS’ core pillars, SGS People – 15 Day Challenge, a global initiative to encourage employees to support local communities was launched. SGS Philippines took its part by encouraging employees to pledge an amount which will also be donated to the victims of Typhoon Rolly and Ulysses. A total of P56,400.00 was raised from the employee pledges from this activity and was donated to Kaya Natin! Movement in the form of cash which will be used to purchase sacks of rice for those who were also affected by the typhoon in the area of San Francisco, Quezon. This will be part of their donation drive for this quarter to continue supporting the typhoon victims towards new beginnings.

Due to the strict protocols implemented by the SGS Philippines as part of its crisis management and the implemented business continuity plan, the actual distribution was solely managed by Kaya Natin Movement with the help of the local government unit in Montalban, Rizal. They were given stubs for claiming before the day of the distribution.
