In ordinary life, electrostatic discharge (ESD) and static electricity can be minor annoyances. However, they can cause numerous problems for organizations across several industries, particularly the electronics industry. They can have adverse effects on product quality and reliability, manufacturing costs and production. Unprotected electronic components, from diodes to complex hybrids, can easily be damaged and become defective because of electrostatic discharge.

The ANSI/ESD S20.20-2014 standard for the Development of an Electrostatic Discharge Control Program for Protection of Electrical and Electronic Parts, Assemblies and Equipment (Excluding Electrically Initiated Explosive Devices) was developed to help organizations avoid these problems.

This standard helps organizations design, develop, implement and maintain electrostatic discharge (ESD) control programs to protect their ESD-sensitive electrical or electronic parts, assemblies or equipment from being damaged by ESDs greater than or equal to 100 volts HBM, 200 volts CDM and 35 volts on isolated conductors.

This course will provide you with a good understanding of the background, elements and requirements of ANSI/ESD S20.20-2014.
